AfriTrade Consulting Group was engaged by the Ministry of Health, in partnership with KELIN Kenya, to develop a comprehensive policy brief to elevate physical activity as a critical public health and development priority in Kenya. This initiative directly addressed the escalating burden of non- communicable diseases (NCDs), such as diabetes, cardiovascular conditions, and obesity, which have emerged as significant threats to population health and economic productivity. By analysing robust national and international evidence, we crafted a targeted policy brief that highlighted the multifaceted benefits of promoting physical activity, including improved health outcomes, reduced healthcare costs, and enhanced workforce productivity.
We also undertook extensive stakeholder engagement, which helped in identifying key gaps in policy frameworks, institutional coordination, and implementation mechanisms at both the national and county levels. Consequently, the resulting policy brief offered concise, evidence-based recommendations, including regulatory reforms, infrastructure investments in active transport and recreational spaces, enhancements to school- based physical education, and workplace wellness programs.
This assignment exemplified our expertise in translating complex public health research into precise, actionable policy instruments that facilitate cross-sector collaboration and informed decision- making. By supporting the Ministry of Health and KELIN Kenya in this effort, we further demonstrated our capability to contribute meaningfully to preventive health strategies and multisectoral policy development, reinforcing our role as a trusted advisor in advancing public health and sustainable development in Kenya.
